Coffee Safari - 10 Days

Day 1  Arrival

Meet and Greet at the airport by your driver-guide. Transfer to Moshi. Dinner at the foot of Kilimanjaro, at the Machare Coffee Farm. Overnight on the farm.

 

Day 2 Machare Coffee Farm


In the morning you visit Machare Coffee Estate, after lunch presentation of some village projects which are supported by the coffee farm.

Dinner and overnight again at Machare Coffee Farm.

The coffee farm of Bente Luther-Medoch - daughter of the well-known show jumper Peter Luther - and her husband Ralf lies at the foot of Kilimanjaro .

Not only top-class organic certified coffee but also tea is grown, harvested and processed here.

Bente is the soul of the farm. In addition to the work on her own farm, she  also finds time to help the villages that surround the farm in a very meaningful way to help themselves. This is happily and productively accepted. There are various projects - first and foremost the establishment of their own coffee cooperative, which also enables the small farmers in the area to have their coffee at a fair price – which are creative and benefit not only people, but also the environment in which they live.

Day 3 Arusha National Park

Go on a full day game drive in Arusha National Park.

Picnic lunch in Park. Optional: Trekking with an armed ranger on the slopes of Mount Meru, two-hour canoe trip on the Momella lakes.

Dinner and overnight near Arusha..

This small (only 137 km²) but extremely picturesque park is relatively high - between 1,500 and 4,566 meters - and has a great diversity of species. Bounded by the hills around Mount Meru, an inactive volcano, the Ngurdoto crater and the beautiful Momella lakes.

 



Day 4 Burka Coffee Estate - Tarangire National Park

Morning visit to Burka Coffee Estates, lunch at the Shanga River House, then drive to Tarangire National Park for a wonderful evening game drive . Dinner and overnight in Tarangire National Park..

Burka Coffee Estates is one of the largest and at the same time oldest coffee farms in Tanzania (1899) with an area of ​​more than 300 hectares. At an altitude of 1400 meters outside of Arusha, the coffee plants thrive here - surrounded by a natural forest that is still being protected. This forest of over 290 acres is still the habitat of animals such as the dik dik, the smallest antelope species.

Burka has more than 200 permanent employees and 300 workers for special tasks. In the harvest season - depending on the size of the harvest - up to 2000 workers are employed. The employees and their families in the surrounding villages of the community benefit from school and sports facilities, free irrigation for their land and medical care around the clock.

The highland coffee meets the high demands of quality-conscious roasters and coffee lovers. You can convince yourself of this personally at the coffee tasting after the two-hour tour.

 

Day 5 Tarangire National Park

Morning-Safari in the Tarangire National Park. Picnic lunch in the park. Late afternoon progress to Karatu 

Dinner and overnight near Karate.  

The Tarangire National Park is one of the most beautiful game reserves in Tanzania. An area of ​​2600 square kilometers and an average height of 1100 meters is home to some animal species that can only rarely or not at all be observed in other parks in northern Tanzania.

For example the gerenuk, the small kudu, oryx and eland and the rarest of all antelope species: the great kudu. The park also offers big cats, giraffes, buffalo, but above all: elephants, elephants, elephants (sometimes herds of over 200 animals !!!!).

  

Day 6 Ngila Coffee Estate

Visit to Ngila Coffee Estate, lunch at Bashay Rift Lodge. Dinner and overnight again at the Baghayo Garden Suites.

Ngila Coffee Estate is one of the most beautifully situated farms in Tanzania. Over 120 tons of the best Arabica highland coffee can be harvested annually on over 250 acres with 150,000 coffee trees. In addition, animals from the Ngorongoro Conservation Area regularly roam the farm.

The farm is owned by the German Lady Vera Stücker  who continues to improve the quality of the coffee with a lot of love and various investments - e.g. in an efficient irrigation system as well as in water-saving and modern processing technology.  Ngila Coffee Estate employs experienced Tanzanian staff and offers a highland coffee that meets the high demands of quality-conscious roasters and coffee lovers. Dinner and overnight near Karate..

The afternoon for leisure  to relax by the pool, go hiking or visit social institutions such as schools, orphanages or a tree nursery.

 

Day 7 and 8 Safari in the Serengeti

2 days game drives in  the Serengeti.  Picnic lunch in the park, dinner and overnight near Karate.

   

This huge park (14,000 square kilometers) has the highest concentration of wild cats in the world. The Serengeti includes very different biotopes: the savannah with its wide, grass-covered plains in the south, the wooded hilly landscape in the west, the Kopjes - sometimes also called "island mountains" - in the east and the bush savannah in the north. In addition, the area is crossed by a river, which attracts a diverse fauna all year round (buffalo, giraffes, antelopes, cats) but also provides a habitat for crocodiles and hippos.

  

Day 9 Ngorongoro Crater

Game drive in the famous Ngorongoro Crater. At lunchtime picnic in the crater. Dinner and overnight near Karate.

The crater floor is 1700 meters above sea level and has a diameter of 20 kilometers. An almost unbelievable abundance of animals can be found all year round on an area of ​​26,400 hectares, perfectly protected by crater walls up to 600 meters high. Bernhard Grizmek and his son Michael are buried on the edge of what is certainly the most famous animal reserve in the world. In 2010 this natural amphitheater was named a World Heritage Site.

It is the land of the Big Five: buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion, and finally: rhino!

   

Day 10 Arusha

Transfer to Arusha for your return flight or to the flight to Zanzibar for further vacation days on the beach.
